Healthy Mind, Healthy future is a health-based interaction platform that creates a support system for cancer patients in Argentina

High Level Goals:
-
Research the Argentinian healthcare sector and create a product to meet the needs of cancer patients
-
Create financial models and investment plan
-
Provide a high-level flow and supporting wireframes
Finding the Problem
Argentina has the highest cancer rate in South America and lacks generally preventative care. As one of the largest countries in the world,, the country lacks quality care in rural parts of the country. Additionally, the Argentinian healthcare system can be difficult to navigate with their multi-tier system. The Argentinian healthcare sectors is split into three tiers: public coverage, private coverage, and union-based coverage. While everyone in Argentina has some sort of health insurance, not all care is created equal, especially regarding cancer treatment. After seeing staggering statistics regarding cancer rates and Argentina's flawed healthcare system, I decided to create an app that would serve as a band-aid solution. The goal for the project is to plan and create a health-based interaction platform that creates a support system for cancer patients.
Ethnographic Interviews
In order to better understand the problem at hand, I conducted 6 ethnographic interviews. I used these interviews to learn pain points for citizens in Argentina to brainstorm features to best serve them. These were my main takeaways:

Cancer patients & their families:
-
They want to be able to share their worries with others
-
They Want distractions from their treatment
-
Extremely stressful time for parents to balance work and caring for their children
Argentina Public Healthcare Software Developer:
-
Mix of public and private hospitals in Argentina is a mess
-
Hospitals have no idea what treatment other hospitals can offer
-
System is counterintuitive
Retired Argentinian Doctor and Pharmaceutical Engineer
-
Paper records make it difficult to switch hospitals
-
No preventative care
-
Public hospitals often don’t have nurses
Persona
José Luis was an average student in the suburbs of Argentina until he was diagnosed with cancer his senior year. He has found that he has had to take a lot of time out of school traveling to hospitals trying to find the best treatment. He has trouble talking to his friends at school about his condition and can tell that the excess travel has put a lot of stress on his mom and sister.

Brainstorming Features
To brainstorm features for the product roadmap, I created a "How might we" and "Point of View Questions" using insight from my ethnographic interviews and motivations from José's profile.

How can we find José the support he needs for his cancer journey?
-
Offer a family connection program
-
With a doctor referral, cancer patients and their family can opt into this program where they are matched with another family
-
Messaging program to connect these families

How might we allow José to track details about his treatment?
-
Offer a medication tracker and treatment journal
-
Create an interface that is appealing and useable for children

How might we speed up the process of comparing hospitals for José?
-
Compile the treatments hospitals offer
-
Filtered search for their needs
Information Architecture
After identifying the major features for the bottom navigation, I mapped out the information architecture to show the hierarchy of major and minor features. This will give me a better idea of how to organize tasks.
